Vegan dating in California is where our US membership is strongest. California has more of our American members than any other state, about twice as many as the next, Florida. They are in Los Angeles and Long Beach, San Diego, San Francisco and Oakland, Sonoma County, Sacramento and the towns between.

Who our California members are

California's members are older than you might expect. Nearly a third are 65 or over, the biggest group, and the 35 to 44s make up about a fifth; under-35s are about one in six. There are slightly more women than men. It is a place for vegans who have been plant-based since long before it was fashionable, as well as newer converts.

California's vegan scene

California has been at the front of plant-based food in America for decades. Los Angeles has entire neighbourhoods, from Silver Lake to Venice, where vegan restaurants are ordinary, and the Bay Area has a deep tradition of vegetarian and vegan cooking. Farmers' markets run in almost every town, all year round, and there are animal sanctuaries across the state that welcome volunteers.

Distance in a big state

California is nearly 800 miles long. Southern California and the Bay Area are separate dating areas in practice, so set your distance to your own region unless you are happy to fly or drive a long way.

Southern California

In and around Los Angeles, our members live everywhere from Long Beach to the valleys. The Griffith Observatory is free to visit and has some of the best views of the city, and the trails around it make an easy morning date. Further south, Balboa Park in San Diego has gardens, museums and space to walk, and the beaches from La Jolla to Ocean Beach are close by.

Northern California

In the Bay Area, members are spread across San Francisco, Oakland and the North Bay, with more in Santa Rosa, Sacramento and Roseville. The Saturday farmers' market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco is a classic first meeting place, and the redwoods of Muir Woods or the trails of the East Bay hills are a short drive away for a second date. Sonoma's small towns have relaxed cafés with plenty for vegans.
